Every day we spend together,
I remember less and less
what life felt like
before you were in it.
Not because I’ve forgotten,
but because you have become
so naturally woven into my days
that your absence feels unnatural now.
Like looking up
and expecting the moon
to be where the dark has always kept it…
and finding only sky.
Something feels wrong
on the nights I cannot see you there.
You have become the person
I trust like gravity.
Not because I never fear the fall,
but because we have been through enough now
for me to know
you will catch me every time
like it is simply part of the physics
of who we are.
I tell you the big things,
the impossible things,
the things that press against my chest
and ask to be held by someone
who knows how.
But I tell you the little things too.
And all the things in-between.
Because why wouldn’t I tell you
how beautiful the stars are tonight?
So if it’s alright,
I’d like to stay, please.
Not because I have nowhere else to go,
but because it is beautiful here.
And I like it very much.
I like the way loving you
feels effortless.
It feels like coming home
to a light left on
by someone who always knew
I’d make it back.
And I cannot find
a single reason
that would ever make me
want to leave.
